About The Highlands of Hampden
Discover the rich history and unique character of our beloved neighborhood community.

Neighborhood Overview
Our History
The Highlands of Hampden emerged between 1985 and 2002 on what was once productive Cumberland Valley farmland in Hampden Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. This premier residential development was orchestrated by The Highlands of Hampden Square Partnership, with renowned builder Harry Smith constructing 209 distinctive brick homes.
The transformation from fertile fields to family neighborhoods coincided with the area's dramatic growth, driven by the Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg and excellent access to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Our homes range from 2,569 to 4,791 square feet, all adhere to strict quality standards including minimum 2,000 square foot construction and all-brick exteriors.
Today, our community thrives within the highly-rated Cumberland Valley School District, with walking access to Armitage Golf Course and Caddy Shack restaurant, nearby Creekview Park, and the beautiful Conodoguinet Creek. We continue to preserve the quality construction and community character that Harry Smith envisioned.
